Teen drivers are young and inexperienced. They need to know the importance of good driving habits and develop the right attitude about driving.
New York, New York (PRWEB) May 15, 2013
May is Global Youth Traffic Safety Month, a time for young people to focus on safety and examine the causes of traffic related crashes. During this month, youth are encouraged to develop and lead traffic safety education projects, as well as affect legislation to protect teen drivers, reported WBUR (5.8.13). New York auto accident lawyer David Perecman supports the effort.
"Teen drivers are young and inexperienced. They need to know the importance of good driving habits and develop the right attitude about driving,” said Perecman. “Motor vehicle crashes should no longer be the leading cause of death for teens in the United States.”
Each year, over 5,000 teens of driving age are killed in vehicle crashes. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), drivers under the age of 20 are the largest proportion of drivers who were distracted at the time of a crash. The drivers in 11% of all fatal auto crashes were in this age group and driving while distracted.
“Parental involvement is also of significant importance in reducing the distracted driving practices of teens. Parents need to work with teens to help develop their driving skills and be role models,” said Perecman.
Global Youth Traffic Safety Month was launched in part by the National Organizations for Youth Safety (NOYS).
