New York, NY (PRWEB) November 30, 2012
BLB issued a statement lauding the program and it's star-studded gala as a great way for the everyday New Yorker and a myriad of celebrity supporters to come together to support those without clean water following the announcement this week that charity: water is now one of the charities shoppers on OO.com can support.
OO.com, a shopping site that allows shoppers to accumulate points that can be donated to charity, kicked off it's support campaign for charity: water with a #GivingTuesday event, held the day after Cyber Monday. This type of charitable marketing is seen as the wave of the future and those behind the charities are grateful for the support.
BLB announced their support of the efforts of the organizers for the charity and look forward to the upcoming gala as a way for New Yorkers to have a local impact on a charity that started in their own backyard and benefits thousands of people in developing countries every day.
Charity: water was started in 2006 by Scott Harrison, a former nightclub promoter who was a frequent on the New York nightlife scene for more than a decade - before being exposed firsthand to the plight in developing countries and deciding to start a charity to help bring clean drinking water to people in developing countries. The gala, which will be held Dec. 10, is supported by many celebrity honorary chairpersons and a host committee comprised of other well-known New Yorkers such as Mark Birnbaum, a fellow nightlife mogul who recently shared his support of the charity through his Twitter account. The event was attended by 2,200 people and raised $2.2-million last year.
While charity: water has been around for more than six years and it's main marketing platform has been primarily social media for the last three years, gala nights have proven quite successful as a way to quickly raise much-needed money for the program. Recently the charity also earned the support of OO.com, a powerful online shopping network.
