People think of snow and ice in connection with slip-and-fall injuries, but warm weather presents many hazards for falls and injuries that we hope New Yorkers will recognize and avoid.

New York City injury lawyer David Resnick said today that his firm has added new content to its slip-and-fall accident website about hazards at public parks.

Resnick said the content was added to provide helpful information to New Yorkers at a time when many are getting outdoors to enjoy May’s warm weather in the city’s parks.

“People think of snow and ice in connection with slip-and-fall injuries, but warm weather presents many hazards for falls and injuries that we hope New Yorkers will recognize and avoid,” said Resnick of the New York City personal injury firm, David Resnick & Associates, P.C.

Resnick said people are more active in spring and summer, and they spend more time in parks and on playgrounds. However, uneven or damaged pavement or similar hazards can cause people to slip and fall and suffer serious, debilitating injuries.

Increased maintenance in warmer months can also lead to newly dug holes, tools, equipment or landscaping stones being placed where they are unexpected and unseen by passersby until it is too late, he said.

“A trip-and-fall accident can happen anytime, and can cause serious injuries like strained backs, broken bones and head and brain injuries,” the New York City slip-and-fall accident attorney said.

“We’ve maintained a website devoted to slip-and-fall accidents because they can be so quickly debilitating,” he said. “Many people misunderstand the obligations of property owners, including local governments that run parks and playgrounds, to people injured on their property.”

Resnick said the laws pertaining to slip- or trip-and-fall cases are complex and each case is unique. The most important thing to know, he said, is that a slip-and-fall accident victim in New York has 90 days from the date of the accident to file a legal claim if the accident occurred in a New York City park.

“Our website provides an overview of a New Yorker’s legal rights and options after a slip-and-fall injury,” Resnick said. “But to properly protect those rights, and to effectively exercise those legal options, you’ll still need the help of an experienced personal injury attorney.”
