Any lawmaker who values civil rights should see this legislation as what it is: legislation long overdue.

New York civil rights violation lawyer David Perecman, founder of The Perecman Firm, announces his support for New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Women's Equality Act. Cuomo pushed the new 10-point legislation plan forward in his most recent State of the State address. He called for changes to NY State law in order to “break down barriers that perpetuate discrimination and inequality based on gender.”

The law would provide stronger protections against pregnancy discrimination, workplace sexual harassment and workplace discrimination based on family status. The 10-point plan also covers other topics, including guarantees of equal pay, human trafficking laws, order-of-protection laws, and passage of the Reproductive Health Act, which protects a women's right to choose.

“The governor’s announcement signaled he is prioritizing women’s equality,” said Perecman. “Applause for an agenda that will address gender discrimination and gender inequality in New York State.”

Cuomo said the proposed bill would follow the spirit of 2010's Marriage Equality Act.

“Fairness and equality for women is something we at The Perecman Firm have long supported,” said Perecman. “It’s good to see that is high on the agenda of New York State, as well. Any lawmaker who values civil rights should see this legislation as what it is: legislation long overdue.”

“In addition to the issue of fairness, it’s been long said that the economic success of NYS depends partially on having the most dedicated, qualified and competent people as part of the workforce,” added Perecman, a civil rights violation lawyer in New York for over 30 years. “It’s time for equality.”
