New York crane accidents provide a horrific and clear example of the importance of safety first on construction sites.
New York, New York (PRWEB) April 10, 2012
A 30-year old New York construction worker died and four others were injured when a crane collapsed and fell into Site J of the subway’s 7 line extension project, reported the New York Post (4/3/2012).
Fire Department of New York officials said the crane’s boom came apart in two pieces, reported ABC News (4/4/2012).
This construction accident was New York City’s third fatal crane accident of its kind since 2008.
“New York crane accidents provide a horrific and clear example of the importance of safety first on construction sites,” said New York construction accident lawyer David Perecman, who was interviewed by WNBC TV about worker safety and crane collapses in the wake of the 7-line construction accident. “Many times crane collapse-related injuries and deaths could have been prevented.”
Following the deadly construction accident, New York’s MTA completely suspended all work on the 7 train extension while investigators probed what went wrong, said the New York Post.
The MTA also announced plans to conduct safety inspections of all cranes being used at MTA construction work sites throughout New York City, the tabloid said. These projects include the Second Avenue Subway.
“Because of their size and weight, cranes pose enormous danger at construction sites,” said Perecman, the former head New York construction accident lawyer for the New York State Trial Lawyers Association and a lecturer on construction accident law.
