Employment as a steelworker is inherently dangerous. Accidents on New York construction sites can result in serious New York construction site injuries, and even fatalities.
New York, New York (PRWEB) May 09, 2012
Union officials handed out applications for 50 recently-opened ironworkers apprenticeship positions, reported the New York Daily News (5/2/2012).
All 500 applications were handed out in approximately three hours, union officials told the New York Daily News.
Hundreds of job seekers had camped out in front of Metallic Lathers Local 46 in Woodside, Queens for their chance to apply. The first person in line had arrived a week before the applications were handed out, reported the NYDN.
Local Union 46 represents metallic lathers and reinforcing ironworkers.
“Standing in line was the easy part of the job,” said New York construction accident lawyer David Perecman, a construction accident lawyer in New York for over 30 years. “Employment as a steelworker is inherently dangerous. Accidents on New York construction sites can result in serious New York construction site injuries, and even fatalities.”
As New York construction accident lawyers at The Perecman Firm understand, ironworkers perform physically demanding and dangerous work. Their job often requires them to work high above the ground, risking falls that may leave them with catastrophic New York construction-related injuries.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, ironworkers have one of the highest rates of job related injuries of all occupations.
“Falls are among the leading causes of serious work-related injuries and deaths in the construction industry,” added New York construction accident lawyer Perecman, the former head New York construction accident lawyer for the New York State Trial Lawyers Association and a lecturer on construction accident law.
Perecman and the New York construction accident lawyers at The Perecman Firm have recovered millions of dollars in verdicts and settlements for injured construction workers and families of workers who died in construction accidents.
