The rescue was characteristic of the extraordinary bravery, professionalism and skill of New York’s firefighters. The scaffold workers were commendably brave and professional, as well.
New York, NY (PRWEB) June 18, 2013
Two scaffold workers were rescued by New York City firefighters after they became stuck near the top of the Hearst Tower for nearly two hours, reported The New York Times (6.13.13). New York construction accident lawyers at The Perecman Firm followed the rescue effort, which was broadcast live by a number of local television stations.
“The rescue was characteristic of the extraordinary bravery, professionalism and skill of New York’s firefighters,” said David Perecman, founder of The Perecman Firm and a construction accident lawyer in New York for over 30 years.
The scaffold maintenance workers were stranded 500 feet above the Midtown Manhattan sidewalk after their work platform snapped. To rescue the men, the firefighters cut through a window on the 45th floor in order to reach them. The workers were wearing harnesses at the time of the accident, said The New York Times.
“The safety harnesses helped save the workers lives by preventing them from falling before help arrived and, as the rescuers decided on the best method of rescue,'' said Perecman.
According to The New York Times, the platform appeared to have snapped in the middle. However, an official report on the malfunction has yet to be released. The accident is under investigation by the NYC Buildings Department and the New York State Department of Labor.
The Hearst Tower is located on Eighth Avenue between 56th and 57th Streets. The scaffolding was designed and built by Tractel-Swingstage, said The New York Times.
Individuals who have been injured in a scaffold accident should call a construction accident lawyer. Importantly, the accident needs to be investigated thoroughly.
