There is no excuse for New York hospitals to be at the bottom of any rankings on safety.
New York, New York (PRWEB) March 07, 2012
A recently released survey by Consumer Reports (February 2012), said thirty of the fifty lowest rated hospitals in the U.S. were in the New York City area.
In fact, the five lowest-rated hospitals, nationally, were all in the New York area.
New York medical malpractice lawyers at The Perecman Firm were angered to see that the rates of infection and readmissions in New York-area hospitals are among the worst in U.S.
“There is no excuse for New York hospitals to be at the bottom of any rankings on safety," said New York medical malpractice lawyer David Perecman, a medical malpractice lawyer in New York for over 30 years.
Jacobi Hospital in the Bronx was labeled worst in the country, 68% worse than the national average. Nassau University Medical Center was rated second worst at 63% under the average.
According to the magazine, their health-care experts looked at more than a thousand of the nation's hospitals. The four key safety areas used to rank the hospitals were: hospital-acquired infections, readmission rates, and how well doctors and nurses communicated discharge and medication instructions.
“Patients receiving care in a hospital expect their safety and wellbeing to be an absolute priority,” said New York medical malpractice lawyer Perecman, founder of The Perecman Firm, one of New York’s medical malpractice law firms. “And they should be able to expect this.”
The highest scoring New York area hospital was St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn.
“When the failure to follow reasonable safety rules leads to patient injury or death, hospitals need to be held accountable,” said New York medical malpractice lawyer Perecman.
