We want to get New York up and running again with no injuries.
New York, NY (PRWEB) November 01, 2012
Hurricane Sandy battered New York with powerful winds and a historic storm surge on Sunday night. Now the city faces the challenges of getting the flooded mass transit system running, restoring electricity, and cleaning up. New York personal injury lawyer David Perecman urges workers engaged in hurricane cleanup to be aware of the hazards they might encounter and to take all precautions to stay safe.
“Work conditions change drastically after a hurricane. Workers will face all kinds of additional challenges, such as downed power lines, fallen trees, and high volumes of debris,” said Perecman.
There are a number of unusual challenges for workers involved in Sandy clean up activities, as well. For one, the hurricane force left a crane hanging off a luxury high-rise in midtown Manhattan. Many of the subways and tunnels of New York are underwater. Also, a facade of a four-story building in Chelsea partially collapsed, leaving the rooms exposed as if in a dollhouse, reported CNN.
According to the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), workers can expect to find safety and health hazards throughout the city. In the flood zone and out, some of the hazards include: electrical hazards, musculoskeletal injuries, heavy equipment operation, structural instability, hazardous materials, fire, falls from heights, and exhaustion from working long hours.
Personal injury lawyers at The Perecman Firm recommend that the cleanup work be done by workers who know what they are doing.
“Cleaning up after a storm can be very dangerous. Safety has to be the top priority for everyone involved in the cleanup effort,” said New York personal injury lawyer David Perecman. “We want to get New York up and running again with no injuries.”
