Everyday people get on and off elevators without giving much thought to the complicated pieces of machinery they are using.

New York personal injury lawyers at The Perecman Firm are questioning why a parking garage worker was able to drive a car into an empty automobile elevator shaft.

The Lexus RX 350 sport-utility vehicle was on the fifth floor of an Upper East Side garage, when it came crashing down, according to The New York Times. (7/17/2012) The car plunged down the elevator shaft and landed on top of an elevator car on the ground level that had another worker inside. The two parking-garage attendants were injured in the accident.

The two men injured in the elevator accident are “expected to be OK,” said The New York Times.

“Miraculously, the workers weren’t killed or injured more seriously,” said New York personal injury lawyer David Perecman, founder of The Perecman Firm.

Elevator accidents can result in serious injury or even death.

“Everyday people get on and off elevators without giving much thought to the complicated pieces of machinery they are using. Elevators must be regularly and properly maintained to ensure they operate safely and correctly,” said Perecman.

Lawyers at The Perecman Firm understand that elevator accidents in New York and elsewhere may be the result of malfunctions and-or improper maintenance.

“Elevator accidents require experienced accident lawyers with the knowledge and resources necessary to handle the complexities of this type of case,” said David Perecman, who has represented clients throughout New York who have been injured in elevator accidents.
