Expert Panel Urges FDA to Impose New, Stricter Limitations on Testosterone Drugs

Columbus law firm O’Connor, Acciani & Levy agrees that the Food and Drug Administration needs to impose more limitations on the testosterone drug industry to prevent overprescribing these medications.

The attorneys at Columbus personal injury law firm O’Connor, Acciani & Levy are commending an expert panel that recently voted in favor of having the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) impose new limitations on the testosterone drug industry that help control how these drugs are prescribed and marketed.

According to a New York Times article published on Sept. 17, the panel is recommending that the agency strengthen labels for the drugs so that they are only prescribed to men who have low testosterone levels. Additionally, the FDA could also control the marketing of the drugs, which would allow drug companies to advertise only to a specific audience.

“The whole idea is to try to rein in the inappropriate advertising and use of these drugs,” Dr. Michael Domanski, the director of heart failure research at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, told The New York Times.

Earlier this year, the FDA announced that they would be evaluating the risk of stroke, heart attack and death linked to FDA-approved drugs following the publication of two separate studies that suggested an increase of cardiovascular events among men over the age of 65 who were taking testosterone drugs.

The dangerous drug lawyers at O’Connor, Acciani & Levy are offering free testosterone therapy claim reviews to men who allegedly suffered cardiovascular events after taking prescribed testosterone therapy drugs. To learn more about testosterone therapy, visit http://www.oal-law.com.
