What’s the best cure for international humiliation at the hands of the German football team? If England defender and captain of Chelsea FC John Terry is to be believed: villa holidays in Florida. Meanwhile, his England squad-mate Wayne Rooney has retired to a villa on the Caribbean island of Barbados to try and forget about his lacklustre performance during England’s campaign.

Frequent Florida holidaymaker Terry has retreated to a £2,500-a-week villa in the sunshine state, while Wayne Rooney is currently licking his wounds at his 500-acre Royal Westmoreland Estate on the west coast of Barbados. Rooney reportedly even booked his holiday two days before England’s defeat at the hands of Germans, including first class tickets for himself, wife Coleen and her two brothers at a cost of £5,923 a piece.

“His performance this World Cup might not have been up to snuff, but John Terry certainly has good taste in holidays,” says Harry Hastings, director of Florida holiday specialists Ocean Florida. “Florida villa holidays by the beach are pretty much the best way to ease away the stresses and strains of the year, particularly if that year has been marked by a fairly disastrous World Cup campaign.”

Rooney and his family plan to spend at his recently-completed villa, before taking a cruise around the Caribbean, followed by a few nights at family favourite Las Vegas. Terry was spotted taking his family to Disney World in Orlando - no doubt his children will have begged for a detour to the recently-opened Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal's Islands of Adventure theme park.

Other famous owners of villas in Florida include cricketer Freddie Flintoff, billionaire television personality Oprah Winfrey, Latin songstress Shakira, fading tennis star Anna Kournikova, and even deceased author Ernest Hemingway.
