O-I brings innovators and customers together to design new forms of glass packaging in real time

O-I and teams from brands such as Coke, Fetzer and Miller are collaborating in the Ideation Center to create innovative new glass packaging options.

Driven by consumer preference for glass packaging and opportunities for industry innovations, O-I has launched an Ideation Center, a high-tech hub where O-I engineers, designers, R&D teams and marketers collaborate with customers to create innovative breakthroughs in glass packaging.

The Ideation Center serves as an idea laboratory where teams can develop creative packaging solutions, sharing ideas globally in real-time*. Imagine a glass bottle that is lightweight, unbreakable and personalized in your favorite shape and color. Then you will begin to envision the types of breakthroughs O-I is developing, alongside partners from blue-chip consumer brands like Coke, Coors and Miller.

"We understand that the marketplace is changing and our customers' expect that we proactively bring innovation to them," said Michael Lonsway, O-I's director of North American new product development. "The Ideation Center is one of the tools we are using to bring more value to our customers and to fulfill our objective of creating the future of glass."

The Ideation Center highlights O-I's intention to drive glass innovation through the most aggressive innovation effort in the company's history. The company is growing its product research and development team and adding new talent in the marketing and glass sciences arenas.

In addition to product innovation, O-I will continue to expand its investment in manufacturing technology while exploring new, cost-effective and sustainable manufacturing methods.

"We're bringing our customers a perspective that they might not be aware of," said Kevin Stevens, O-I vice president of sales and marketing. "Today, consumers don't have a lot of choice--they have a choice of a can or a choice of plastic. We're saying, 'give them the choice of glass.' We can tailor the attributes of glass to whatever customers are specifically looking for and that's what we hope to achieve, in a collaborative effort, using the Ideation Center."
