Claire Cagnolatti, vice president of chemicals at Solomon Associates, will present an analysis of olefin plant turnarounds at the 2012 AIChE Spring Meeting.

My presentation at AIChE will show the statistical correlations between turnaround duration versus turnaround interval, and the impact of lengthening turnaround interval on cost, duration, work density, and reliability.

Claire Cagnolatti of Solomon Associates, the leading performance improvement company for the global energy industry, will present “Analysis of Turnarounds in Olefin Plants: A 16-Year View” at the 2012 American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Spring Meeting, April 1-5, in Houston, Texas, USA.

As vice president of chemicals, Cagnolatti oversees Solomon Associates benchmarking studies in the areas of chemicals manufacturing and contributes to performance improvement consulting with refining and petrochemical clients. She will be presenting a technical paper that highlights the results of a 16-year analysis of trends in plant turnaround performance in the olefin industry.

“Solomon Associates has conducted benchmarking studies of the olefin industry for years, and the data collected in the 16-year analysis of turnarounds provides further insight into plant performance trends,” said Cagnolatti. “My presentation at AIChE will show the statistical correlations between turnaround duration versus turnaround interval, and the impact of lengthening turnaround interval on cost, duration, work density, and reliability.”

Drawing from the technical paper she co-authored with Solomon consultant Rick Jones, Cagnolatti will analyze and compare the plant data by one or more of the following variables: age of plant, feedstock type, and whether or not the plant uses a mini or major turnaround cycle. Other discussion topics include turnaround timing, critical path for completion, use of contractors, and work hours spent by equipment type in an olefin plant.

The AIChE Spring Meeting is a key technical conference for practicing chemical engineers, covering a wide range of subjects relevant to the industry. AIChE is a leading organization for chemical engineers around the world, offering resources and expertise to professionals in the core process industries as well as emerging areas.

Cagnolatti will be speaking at one of the sponsored topical conferences held at the AIChE Spring Meeting, titled “Ethylene Plant Turnaround Excellence: Maintenance Operations Joint Session.” It is a joint session between maintenance and operations professionals with a focus on turnaround operations.

Cagnolatti will present on Wednesday, April 4, at 8:05 a.m.
