You know, because of the stigma behind it-all the gang violence you hear about taking place

The City of Compton, once plagued by a negative image of a city gone to seed, is now in the midst of a image makeover bringing in new shopping, new housing, and a higher quality of life thanks to a new campaign launched by Mayor Eric Perrodin and a partnership with The Olson Company.

The image of a new Compton is coming into focus just as the economy appears to be emerging from a recession. For homebuyer Tiana Durrah, the time was right for buying a home and the prices of new homes at Olson Homes' Willow Walk seemed too tempting not to be investigated. Initially, Tiana was afraid of moving to Compton but now she loves it. "You know, because of the stigma behind it-all the gang violence you hear about taking place," said the newfound Compton homeowner. "I guess I really didn't know too much about it, but all I had heard was negative."

That was before she moved into Willow Walk, a gated, stylish 127-unit townhome community located in the heart of Compton. Now she's singing the city's praises. "So far we haven't encountered any problems," Durrah says. "Living here has been great. I feel safe."

Willow Walk itself is experiencing a positive economic sales boost as homebuyers are discovering this little gem of a community that is just a short Metro Blue Line ride to downtown Los Angeles. Add to the fact that home pricing starts at $245,990 make Willow Walk home ownership affordable and an excellent alternative to renting. Willow Walk is exactly what the city was hoping to provide as proof positive that this is an all new Compton.

On Saturday October 3rd Willow Walk is inviting the public to experience a New Homebuyer Fest celebrating the city's progress and introducing home ownership in a fun and informative atmosphere. Visitors can see the new Compton, enter to win USC Trojan tickets, enjoy music music provided by local radio station KJLH, enjoy tacos and refreshments, win prizes and learn about home buying benefits including taking advantage of the $8,000 Federal Tax Credit for first time homebuyers.
