AmerisourceBergen Corporation (NYSE: ABC) today announced the launch of a new service line focused exclusively on meeting the changing needs of cancer care providers. The oncology service line makes it easier for cancer care providers to access the medications their patients' need—regardless of whether medications are administered in the hospital or community setting.

Historically, cancer care has been delivered through community-based oncology practices or through hospitals. Recent trends indicate shifting models, with hospital systems entering into various business arrangements or strategic relationships with community-based oncology practices. The result is an emerging model for oncology that presents complex questions around class of trade, group purchasing organization contracts and product purchasing.

AmerisourceBergen's oncology service line addresses these issues through a coordinated approach that simplifies oncology purchasing and financial management. Customers receive customized, integrated pricing models that reflect their unique purchasing requirements. Rather than ordering the same products from multiple suppliers—all dependent on the site of care—customers will have access to a simplified order entry process to purchase all their oncology products, while maintaining their appropriate class of trade. They have a single point of contact for all service issues and inquiries. The providers also have access to inventory management and protocol analysis tools designed specifically to improve operational effectiveness in oncology.
