Oncor Embarks on SMART TEXAS Tour
Mobile Experience Center to Help Educate Consumers on New Technology
DALLAS (Business Wire EON/PRWEB ) May 27, 2008 --
Oncor today kicks off its SMART TEXAS rethinking energy consumer
education program and tour, in Arlington, Texas. The program will allow
consumers to see first-hand the benefits of the technology and how they
can take advantage of those benefits by using the new advanced meters
that will be installed throughout Oncor’s
service area over the next four years.
“With this education campaign, we believe that
consumers in Oncor’s service area will better
understand how to take advantage of the opportunities that the new
advanced meters provide and will be able to reduce their demand –
along with lowering their bills and helping the environment,”
said Bob Shapard, Oncor CEO.
The tour uses a 1,000-square-foot Mobile Experience Center (MEC)
equipped with six “experience centers”
to teach the benefits that can be achieved with Oncor’s
new advanced meter technology, which include greater control over energy
consumption to reduce consumers’ electric
bills and help the environment. The MEC uses videos, interactive kiosks
and real-world demonstrations to educate consumers on how to achieve
these benefits.
The SMART TEXAS educational campaign will start with an 18-city tour
during the month of June and is planned to continue at county fairs and
civic events in the years to come. Arlington was the first stop on this
tour.
The MEC will be the first time in the nation a utility company has
brought an educational experience of this kind directly to the
communities it serves and will reach hundreds of thousands of consumers
throughout the service area through local events during the next four
years.
Oncor is a regulated electric distribution and transmission business
that uses superior asset management skills to provide reliable
electricity delivery to consumers. Oncor operates the largest
distribution and transmission system in Texas, providing power to 3
million electric delivery points over more than 102,000 miles of
distribution and 14,000 miles of transmission lines. While Oncor is a
subsidiary of Energy Future Holdings Corp., Oncor is a
separate entity with a separate board that is comprised of a majority of
independent directors.
