“Baseball Connect allows fans to play during any live game, whether they’re at home, at a sports bar or in-person at the ballpark. We think this will change how sports fans enjoy live sporting events.

OneUp Games and its latest game, Baseball Connect, has been named as one of the eight finalists in the GamesBeat 2011 Startup Contest as this year’s hottest mobile startup. Hosted by VentureBeat, GamesBeat is taking place July 12-13 in San Francisco at the Palace Hotel. The eight finalists were selected from over 100 startups by a panel of experts and advisors as the hottest new companies in the mobile game space.

OneUp Games is the future of live social gaming. More than just another fantasy sports app or social game, OneUp Games has developed a global live-play, sports-based social gaming platform that makes watching your favorite sports more fun and rewarding. OneUp’s first title, Baseball Connect, goes live during the 2011 MLB All-Star Game.

Baseball Connect players are given random game cards that are populated with the many events that happen during Baseball games, such as home runs, doubles, singles, double plays, pop flys, etc. Users earn more points if they swap the random events with a specific player event (e.g. David Ortiz HR) or they can play it safe and pick the team (Red Sox HR). When a row or “connect” is unlocked by successfully predicting series of events, the user earns points while competing against friends. The points can be redeemed later for prizes.

“We are honored to be a GamesBeat 2011 finalist and we are very excited that Baseball Connect has defined a new category within social gaming,” said Daren Trousdell, OneUp Games CEO. “Baseball Connect allows fans to play during any live game, whether they’re at home, at a sports bar or in-person at the ballpark. We think this will change how sports fans enjoy live sporting events especially for those who want to compete and mix-up with their social networks.”

In addition, OneUp Games is leading the “gamification” of live sports by offering other game-makers and developers the opportunity to create their own experiences using our live event data, social-game engine and rewards platform through our open API which will be live in late 2011.

As a finalist, Baseball Connect will present its product to over 500 influencers, investors, and members of the media as they compete for the coveted Tesla award.

Baseball Connect will be available for the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and Facebook. It is the first in a series of ‘Connect’ sports games - Football and soccer launches will follow later in 2011.
