Canada’s Anti-Spam legislation is being addressed in a new marketing training guide by The Association of Strategic Marketing. Expected to go into effect in 2013, marketers who send any form of commercial electronic messages (CEM) to Canada will need to understand the detailed rules that now govern email and text message communication. In the new marketing training conference entitled ‘Canada’s New Anti-Spam Law: Are You in Compliance?’ marketers, email database managers, social media operators and anyone who sends commercial electronic messages (CEM) will learn the new Canadian rules, the differences between the Canadian regime and the US CAN-SPAM Act, as well as practical tips for compliance.
“You don’t need to be a spammer, or even be located in Canada, for this new legislation to affect important elements of your business,” says Bernice M. Karn. “These practical tips will ensure any commercial electronic message (CEM) complies with the new identification requirements, consent requirements and unsubscribe requirements that will be implemented in 2013.”
In this live educational training conference, Bernice will teach email marketers:
- The detailed rules of the new comprehensive federal law dealing with SPAM and malware
- The difference between the Canadian regime and the US CAN-SPAM Act
- Practical tips to ensure compliance
- What the severe penalties for noncompliance are
- The best practices for commercial electronic messages
“Penalties for email marketing noncompliance are often severe and can apply directly to directors and officers,” says Bernice. “Failure to comply with this new law can expose a company and its directors to penalties of up to $10 million dollars and class action lawsuits of much greater magnitude.”
Bernice M. Karn is a partner in the office of Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP where she practices all aspects of information technology, e-commerce, outsourcing and privacy.
