The Real Estate Marketing Insider announces its opinions on Pinterest and its potential as part of a marketing plan for real estate firms and agents. On the heels of an editorial in the RISMedia that introduced Pinterest as a real estate marketing tool, REMI advised its realtor readers to use “pinning” sites to showcase their practice and property portfolio.

The Real Estate Marketing Insider released a statement outlining its thoughts on the potential of Pinterest as a component of a real estate marketing strategy. The Insider announced that it supported any effort to work Pinterest and other “pinning” sites into a marketing plan, and urged real estate professionals to also consider real estate-specific pinning sites.

REMI’s announcement was prompted by a May 23 editorial penned by Erica Byrum, social media director for In the RISMedia published article Byrum tackled the question of whether Pinterest is a worthwhile use of time and energy to market a real estate practice. Pinterest and other similar sites are essentially social networks. They involve the construction of personalized virtual “pinboards,” to which users can “pin” content such as videos and images that they create or enjoy. Bynum cited February reports that Pinterest had over 11 million American users, with more recurring traffic than Google+ and nearly as much as Twitter, which is already a staple of most real estate agents’ online toolbox. She concluded that with so much built-in traffic, Pinterest should be explored as a tool for real estate practices, and pledged to discuss how to use it successfully in later writings.

The Insider fully supports efforts by real estate agents and businesses to use Pinterest and other pinning sites in marketing real estate. REMI believes that “pinning” sites can be used effectively by real estate professionals in many ways. Pinboards are easy to maintain, and can include postcards or listing pictures as well as unrelated images that help paint a picture not only of an agent’s catalogue, but the person he/she is outside of the real estate practice.
