A recent BrightRoll survey found that online video advertising has found a greater stronghold with online marketing because it works. Three-quarters (75%) of respondents said online video ads were equally or more effective than traditional TV, according to the survey. On top of that, 90% thought online video ads had equal or greater impact than display ads. Interestingly, during the fourth quarter of 2012, total video views among U.S. Internet users climbed 23% year-over-year. Not surprisingly, video ad spending is expected to grow 41.4% in 2013. The study also found that the greatest percentage of advertising professionals (25%) expect online video ads to see the highest growth rate of any ad category, followed closely by mobile video (23%). “Far from being saturated, online videos continue to be the most popular advertising channel," Wu says. "Not only because online videos are more effective at connecting and engaging with potential customers, but also because, relative to TV advertising, online videos are much easier and significantly less expensive to make.”
“When it comes to ranking higher online, brands need to make sure their videos are optimized to work across multiple platforms—not just on PCs, but also on different mobile devices, like smartphones and tablets. If not, brands are missing a valuable opportunity to get found online,” Wu concludes. “Whether it’s a self-hosted video on the brand's web site or it links from YouTube, video can play an important part in helping any small business connect with online users.”
