Scottrade Named to FORTUNE's 2009 '100 Best Companies to Work For' List for the Second Consecutive Year

Scottrade, a leading branch-supported online investment firm, has been ranked No. 60 on FORTUNE's 12th annual "100 Best Companies to Work For" list. This is the firm's second consecutive appearance on the list; it ranked 58th in 2008.

  • Scottrade has the seventh highest rate of job growth among companies on the list that are hiring. The firm currently has 2,500 associates nationwide--a 24 percent increase from a year ago.
  • The company is on course to open an additional 40 branch offices across the country in 2009. It also plans to fill more than 150 information technology positions in St. Louis.
  • Of the 100 companies on the list, six have never had layoffs, including Scottrade.
  • The firm has maintained quarterly bonuses that have been paid for more than 20 years.
  • At its headquarters in St. Louis and in 391 branch offices across the country, Scottrade offers associates many unique benefits, including a Wellness Reimbursement Assistance Program and Charitable Giving program.

"We plan to hire 400 to 500 associates across the country this year," said Jane Wulf, Scottrade chief administrative officer. "We also strive to provide opportunities for our associates. In 2008, we promoted more than 650 associates, a 26 percent increase in promotions from 2007."

"At my former company, if you took the time to provide customer service, it wasn't going to help you meet your goals," said Susan Lushing, a stockbroker in Woodland Hills, Calif. "Now it's my job to help people. That makes you believe in your company more. I can tell people, 'I'm here to make things easier for you.'"

"The key thing here is that there is a sincere sense of caring on the part of our associates that carries through to our customers," said Kevin Dodson, director of online financial services. "This has been true from day one when Rodger picked up the phone, to now when we have almost 400 branch managers."

"I knew things would be different just from the job interview," said Javier Orozco, a stockbroker in Valencia, Calif. "They wanted to get to know me. They asked me what I wanted for my future. They wanted to be sure that I would fit in and be happy here."
