The Greater Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce announced today the general availability of the Portsmouth P.A.L.®, an innovative free service that provides valuable real-time information about Portsmouth businesses, areas of interest, promotions and activities. The Portsmouth P.A.L.® was developed by local start-up, OnPlane, Inc (http://www.onplaneinc.com).

Portsmouth PAL is an interactive way for local retailers, restaurants and other Chamber member businesses to communicate discounts, events, products and other information to consumers, reaching a larger audience than just their own fan base. The PAL can be accessed via an end user’s PC or Mobile Device (iPhone, iPad, Android or Blackberry) (Now in Beta).

"We are pleased to be working with OnPlane to bring the PAL to Portsmouth," said Doug Bates, President of the Greater Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce. "Chamber Members will be able to leverage the power of the PAL to engage with residents and visitors. This is a member benefit that will help boost the local economy."

The Chamber put together a team of organizations to provide feedback, influence the direction and test the PAL before it was made available in the marketplace. The group included: 106 Kitchen, Dos Amigos, Googies, Jumpin’ Jay’s Fish Café, The Port Inn, Portsmouth Kayak Adventures, Portsmouth Museum of Art, Puttin’ on the Glitz and Seacoast Media Group. Organizations were exposed to the technology, participated in discussions about how to make it better for businesses and end users and tested the application. Upon completion of the program, these organizations got to provide a sneak peak to their fans, followers and customers.

“The PAL is a great member benefit for Chamber businesses,” stated Jay McSharry, owner of Jay’s Restaurant Group and member of the Chamber’s Board of Directors. “We see the PAL as a way to expand our promotional activities and inform new and existing customers about all that Portsmouth has to offer.”

The Portsmouth PAL is distinctly local – the look and feel of the application includes Portsmouth scenery, communications and information. “The PAL is a technology that delivers information and services to the end user in an easy to consume, cool, app,” said Norman Rice, Co-founder and CEO of OnPlane, Inc. “The PAL was designed to leverage the power of the real-time web and deliver information to users, when they want it and how they choose to receive it.”

With the PAL, Chamber businesses will be able to place real time, last minute promotions; list scheduled activities as well as promote business or other related events and information relevant to the business. In addition, the Chamber will be able to provide measurable information and results from the PAL for area businesses to help with their promotional and marketing efforts. The PAL does not collect any personal identifiable information.

Local businesses contribute to the PAL - the Portsmouth Museum of Arts provided several of the content sources for the “Arts” section – something Rice believes adds credibility and extends community involvement. “Each topical area needs to have a champion – we call them category curators,” stated Rice. “Whether its the Portsmouth Museum of Art providing Art information, blogs and news sources, or SeacoastKidsCalendar.com providing input for the Parents Corner or Rachel Forrest sending her recommendations for Restaurant week, there is truly something for everyone who enjoys Portsmouth in the Portsmouth PAL.”

The PAL has a unique “QR Code” that has been added to coasters, signage and other promotional items around town, so people can easily scan the code to access this service. The Portsmouth PAL is available now at http://www.portsmouthpal.com, the Greater Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce (http://www.portsmouthchamber.org) or through participating retailers, restaurants, bars, etc.
