It’s important to raise awareness about adoption because it touches the lives of so many people, and we’re lucky that the San Francisco Giants are helping us start what has the potential to be a national trend

Adoption agency Independent Adoption Center (IAC) teams up with Mixed Roots Foundation and the Atlanta Braves to present Adoptee Day, a special day for all who have been touched by adoption, during the Braves-Nationals game on September 16, 2012 at 1:30 pm at Turner Field. The goal of this special event is to raise awareness about the adoption experience and show support for the adoption community.

“This event is important, because often the adoption process seems to be all about the initial process of adopting a child,” said Michelle Keyes, LMSW, IAC Georgia branch director. “There are not many services or events for families created through adoption. We want to celebrate and unite anyone touched by adoption, and bring awareness about adoption and our services to the Atlanta community.”

IAC will have an information booth set up in Monument Grove prior to the game where fans can share their stories and receive free give-a-ways. Other local adoption agencies will also be present and agency interviews will be playing on the field before the game, as well.

Adoptee Day is centered on crowd participation. IAC and Mixed Roots Foundation encourages everyone attending the game to help spread awareness, and volunteers will be handing out freebies like rally towels so people can do just that.
