Mobile
Internet technology provider Mobixx announces that it
will now operate under the name Siruna.
The name change marks the beginning of a new era for this spin-off of IBBT
and the University
of Ghent. Siruna’s mobile
application gateway is being released on open.siruna.org
to the Open Source community of Web builders. These can now create
high quality mobile Web sites and applications without having to
deal with the technical complexity of device diversity. Siruna users can
stay focused on their revenue generating applications and content while
we enable their multichannel distribution strategy. Open Source: a
growing driving force for Web developments
The Open Source community has been the driving force behind Web
developments for some time now. By making its mobile application gateway
available to the Open Source community of Web builders, Siruna wishes to
further stimulate the use and development of its mobile Internet
platform for building mobile websites. The release makes Siruna the
first Open Source mobile application gateway developed in Java.
This Open Source release is expected to result in further
enhancements of the Siruna technology platform. Open Source users can
use the platform for free to create and develop mobile websites and
applications, as long as any enhancements that they make are posted back
to the community. Potential customers will also be able to try out the
technology before deciding on whether or not to purchase the commercial
edition.
Keeping pace with rapid Web technology innovation
“The Open Source model is the only way
to keep abreast of the tidal wave of innovation that characterizes
mobile Web technologies,” says
Frank Gielen, founder of Siruna. “Without
a large community, using and developing such a technology and pushing
its possibilities to the limit is impossible. Besides, Siruna itself
largely depends on other Open Source projects, so it seems only fair to
give something back to the community.”
Siruna customers to benefit from evolutions
Siruna’s traditional
product and service offering will continue to be available as before.
The additional Open Source developments are certain to benefit Siruna
customers, since the most interesting enhancements will be integrated
into the company’s core product
and service offering.
