Each quarter OpenView Venture Partners invites its portfolio companies to participate in one to two day events to learn more about key topics for expansion stage software companies.

Joe Pulizzi and Robert Rose presented the workshop in a unique way by understanding the needs of the companies who attended while introducing everyone to seeing their customers as publishers and not just as marketers.

Last week expansion stage venture capital firm OpenView Venture Partners hosted its portfolio companies for a 2-day workshop on content marketing. The workshop was organized by the OpenView Labs team to help the portfolio companies improve their execution against content marketing strategies and specifically how to best develop a content marketing plan to attract and retain new customers.

“Over the past few years many of our portfolio companies have executed against various content marketing tactics. We organized this workshop to provide our portfolio marketing teams with a framework to manage a content marketing program more efficiently and effectively,” said Brian Zimmerman, Managing Director of OpenView Labs.

Topics included building the business case around content marketing, creating a story, identifying the right marketing channels, building the right team to support your content marketing effort, mapping your content and editorial calendars to your sales funnel and buying cycle, in addition to measuring success in content marketing.

Joe Pulizzi, Senior Advisor to OpenView and founder of Content Marketing Institute, and Robert Rose, Strategist in Residence at the Content Marketing Institute, led the day and a half long session. The workshop was comprised of presentations and discussion across the participants.
