Domestic violence offenders are often paranoid, emotionally unstable, and have some form of alcohol or drug dependency.
Newport Beach, CA (PRWEB) February 17, 2013
According to the OC Register, an instance of domestic violence was reported in Brea, California and resulted in a pursuit through four cities ending in a collision. MacGregor & Collins domestic violence attorneys weigh in on the tendencies of those charged for violent crimes and their potential to inflict harm.
The domestic violence report began in Brea, California, but quickly spread to Fullerton, Buena Park, and eventually La Mirada. Police received the call reporting an instance of domestic violence between a boyfriend and girlfriend, but when officers arrived to the scene the accused had already fled.
Shortly after, an officer saw the accused and attempted to get the man to pull over, which resulted in a pursuit. The accused eventually crashed his vehicle at the corner of Adelfa Drive and Santa Gertrudes Avenue in la Mirada. He was then taken into custody without any further incident.
Randy Collins, Orange County domestic violence attorney, has worked with a number of those who have been charged or accused for domestic violence in Southern California. “Domestic violence offenders are often paranoid, emotionally unstable, and have some form of alcohol or drug dependency. We have represented a wide variety of different violent crime offenders and have learned that many are suffering from severe disorders that would be best served with intensive therapy rather than incarceration.”
“Luckily, the police officers involved were able to apprehend the suspect while helping to prevent serious injury and/or death. Too often, the accused succumbs to a drastic lapse in judgment which can result in tragic circumstance,” said Attorney Collins.
According to CPEDV.ORG, nearly 40 percent of women in California experience partner violence within their lifetimes. Their data also found women who have been pregnant within the last five years to be at a significantly higher risk for abuse.
“We do not condone domestic violence, but we do believe there is a better way. Sentencing offenders to long-term incarceration only exacerbates our county’s domestic violence problem. Finding a long-term alternative sentencing solution to rehabilitate offenders is the only way to make real progress,” said Attorney Collins.
