Orbbec, a leading 3D camera manufacturer trusted by thousands of companies, announced today that its next generation 3D camera, the Astra STEREO S, will launch in early March 2019. Orbbec’s 3D depth sensors meet user needs while revolutionizing the importance and use of 3D cameras in everyday life.

This high-resolution, strikingly accurate depth sensor is a step above anything Orbbec has released before. With enhanced outdoor performance in a more compact design, the Astra STEREO S product will expand its usage to an even wider spectrum of applications. Most depth applications require the need for multiple cameras side-by-side in order to increase the depth map for a product, especially in retail environments. The Astra STEREO S solves this problem by allowing 3D cameras to be placed in close proximity to one another. Orbbec is truly committed to giving the world top notch computer vision, at an affordable price.

“The Astra Stereo S answers several challenges, including the importance of having an effective outdoor 3D camera,” said David Chen, Co-Founder and VP of Business Development at Orbbec. “The Astra Stereo S has the power and size most companies look for today. It’s able to work in combination with other depth sensors. It’s ready for critical use in the areas of retail, automotive, robot picking and home security.”

Orbbec will also launch its smallest, fastest structured light camera, the Astra Embedded S, early this month. The “S” represents short range, which makes the Astra STEREO S and Astra Embedded S uniquely built for close-up use with Orbbec’s closest range ever, between 0.3m and 3m. These two cameras provide short range applications with extreme accuracy. Both cameras strive to get 3D “right” with upgraded 60 FPS that can be applied to achieve high performing 3D depth sensing usage.

Orbbec3D will continue to integrate the advantages of R&D, design and production of 3D sensing technology to develop the state-of-art 3D depth sensor for all consumer and industrial markets to achieve facial recognition, gesture recognition, human skeleton recognition and 3d measurement. Additionally, Orbbec aims to develop environmental perception and 3d map reconstruction in industries such as TV, smartphone, robotic, UAV, logistics, healthcare, smart home, VR/AR, intelligent security, driving assistance, education, automotive, etc. to build a complete and open ecosystem around 3D sensing technology.
