The Tea Spot announces today the latest addition to their growing line of organic loose leaf tea – a single-estate Assam tea from Banaspaty Estate in Northern India. Delicate and sweet - this revered organic assam tea has strong notes of honey. The malty undertones are more subtle than in traditional assam teas. The smooth character, typical of large leaf teas, makes a clean brew with less astringency and less tannins than traditional assams. A forgiving tea to brew properly, this tea produces a consistently great cup. Harvested at sea level from native trees, Assam teas come from the biggest tea producing region in the world. They are characteristically malty and strong, with rich aroma and forthright flavor.
Organic Assam is The Tea Spot’s second assam tea selection, based on the growing demand for this style of tea. Doomni Estate Assam is The Tea Spot’s conventional and more traditional assam tea - very classic, strong, and malty and in its flavor profile. The Tea Spot’s organic Assam tea has somewhat larger leaves, and a more subtle malty taste and natural honey-laced richness.
Last year, The Tea Spot introduced three new organic tea selections, and plans to double that rate of organic tea introductions in 2013. The Tea Spot now offers fourteen certified organic loose leaf teas, ranging from the darkest Pu’erh teas to a green Brazilian Yerba Mate. This premium tea company’s commitment to providing their customers the best flavor, quality, and value in loose leaf teas is driving their growth in organic tea selections.
The Tea Spot’s CEO Maria Uspenski is an avid Assam tea drinker and commented on the launch “It’s so interesting to watch the boost from an endorsement of a particular tea terroir by someone as respected, and as avid a tea drinker, as Dame Judi Dench. Her love for tea time in 'The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel' last year, coupled with her comments in an interview on The Anderson Cooper Show that she only drinks Assam tea caused this particular tea selection to more than triple in sales for us – all the better when this is a tea we especially enjoy here at The Tea Spot, and can share in discovering new and increasingly sophisticated varieties with our customers!”
