James E. Moravek, Jr., M.D. joins MidAmerica Hand to Shoulder Clinic and will specialize in treating patients with disorders of the shoulder and elbow as well as orthopaedic sports medicine injuries.

James E. Moravek, Jr., M.D., has joined MidAmerica Hand to Shoulder Clinic. Dr. Moravek specializes in treating patients with disorders of the shoulder and elbow as well as orthopaedic sports medicine injuries. He will be seeing patients in MidAmerica offices in Palos Hills (10330 S. Roberts Rd.) and Mokena (19065 Hickory Creek Dr., Suite 210).

Dr. Moravek completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Michigan and a fellowship in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at the nearby Beaumont Health System in Royal Oak, MI. He received his medical degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI, and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in biochemistry from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN.

During his residency and fellowship, Dr. Moravek conducted numerous research projects on the shoulder in addition to publishing peer-reviewed articles on shoulder impingement syndrome, meniscal tears and ankle injuries. He spent a month as a visiting physician at the University of Ghana Medical College and served as assistant team physician to the University of Michigan basketball, hockey, and Eastern Michigan football teams.

Dr. Moravek grew up in the Detroit suburbs, where he worked as a caddie and earned an Evans Scholarship. Following his graduation from Notre Dame, he worked as a high school teacher and basketball coach in Detroit, MI, for two years prior to entering medical school. In his free time, he remains active in golf, basketball, running, cycling, and cheering for Notre Dame football.
