TheraTogs are one of the most innovative, progressive and versatile modalities available for physical and occupational therapy practices and provide a live-in, exo-muscular system for neuromotor, postural and sensory training.

Rehabmart.com, an online e-commerce company that sells rehabilitation and medical supplies, has joined into a distribution partnership with TheraTogs, Incorporated, to offer orthopedic 'wearable therapy' systems to a larger consumer market. Headquartered in Telluride, Colorado, TheraTogs is a privately held company devoted to a standard of care worldwide for the management of orthopedic, stability, movement and developmental disorders through neuromuscular and postural training. Founded in 1997 by inventor Beverly (Billi) Cusick, and originally operating as Progressive GaitWays, LLC, TheraTogs develops products that strive to improve the management of deformities and movement disorders related to neuromotor dysfunction and pathomechanics in both children and adults. Cusick, a respected clinician, teacher and physical therapist with over 35 years experience in the field of pediatric neuromotor rehabilitation developed the TheraTogs system to provide gentle, prolonged muscle stretch and alignment guidance that replicates the manual positioning and supervised therapy that the rehab clinician offers in a typical session.

Because rehab sessions tend to be too short or too infrequent, wearing TheraTogs helps to extend the benefits of these sessions into the client's daylong activities, allowing the client to gain thousands of additional repetitions in corrected alignment or position. The sensorimotor and biomechanical principles behind a TheraTogs garment-and-strapping application are therefore the same principles that supported the therapy session that preceded it. TheraTogs serve as 'body training underwear' that is customized by the clinician for the wearer's specific needs. These garments are not an off-the-shelf orthopedic soft-goods product that can be 'figured out' and used effectively and safely by the typical layperson. Every TheraTogs product is registered as an FDA Class I medical device and is labeled with the reminder that the system must be used under the direction of a licensed rehab professional.

TheraTogs are constructed from a patented, proprietary material with an inner foam layer that grips the skin and the underlying soft tissues, and a Velcro®-sensitive outer layer to which clinicians can affix elastic strapping as the 'external muscle' of the system. The materials are comfortable and breathable, and most TheraTogs configurations are worn under normal clothing. Scientific studies and user feedback indicates stunning results, as TheraTogs replicates successful manual sensorimotor training techniques, allowing the wearer to engage in daily, routine activities with improved joint alignment, muscle stretch and alignment guidance that continues the manual positioning and supervised therapy the rehab clinician offers in a typical session. The usual TheraTogs client receives up to 16 hours of wearable therapy every day!

TheraTogs can be used for a wide variety of biomechanical applications as they apply prolonged, low-load forces to the musculoskeletal system to effect changes in muscle recruitment strategies, and with full time use, in muscle physiology and bone geometry. TheraTogs can be used to gain optimum posture and function, and for sensory integration and sensory processing applications as well. The general 'TheraTogs Rule' is if the therapist or rehab practitioner can effect change in the client's stability, alignment, sensory integration, mobility, or motor control through unforced handling during a therapy session, this change can then likely be replicated or supported outside of the session by a properly configured TheraTogs strapping system. These systems are highly adaptable and customizable by design and just some of the conditions that they have been known to help with include ataxia, hypotonia, athetosis, joint deviations, joint laxity, postural malalignment, autism spectrum disorders, sensory integration issues, muscle recruitment problems, out-toed/in-toed gait, weakness and balance and muscle imbalances.

“We are very proud to introduce this incredibly helpful orthopedic 'wearable therapy' from TheraTogs to more consumers,” said Hulet Smith, Founder and CEO of Rehabmart. “TheraTogs are one of the most innovative, progressive and versatile modalities available for physical and occupational therapy practices and provide a live-in, exo-muscular system for neuromotor, postural and sensory training. With their wide variety of strap designs, lengths, widths, calibers of stiffness and placement options, every clinician will be able to optimize results in influencing movement, stability, posture and gait, helping to realize their client's full potential of physical rehab services.”
