Outdoor Heating Guide Urges Householders to Be Safety Conscious in Preparation for Fall

With the cooler months almost here, it is important not to ignore the safety elements of outdoor heating units. Accidents often happen because of inadequate cleaning and checking of outdoor fireplace and heating appliances.

New York, NY (PRWEB) July 30, 2007 -- Householders who enjoy entertaining outdoors are urged to be prepared for the coming fall as the cooler months encourage the use of outdoor heating appliances.

Outdoor Heating Guide representative Wanda Sowden says "One of the most important aspects of outdoor home entertaining is safety. We want to make sure that everyone enjoys their outdoor experiences without suffering any mishaps that can be avoided with just a few simple strategies".

One of the most important aspects of outdoor home entertaining is safety. We want to make sure that everyone enjoys their outdoor experiences without suffering any mishaps that can be avoided with just a few simple strategies
Those who are intending to entertain outdoors through to winter are advised to ensure that there is adequate lighting around outdoor structures, along pathways and on stairways. All too often nasty accidents happen when people trip over items in dimly lit areas of the patio or garden.

When using outdoor electric heating, householders should ensure that power leads are tagged as being safe for outdoor use and that the leads are out of the way so they cannot be tripped over. Power inlets should be built into the patio area so that electrical items can be plugged in outdoors without having leads running from inside the house.

For those with an outdoor fireplace, the Outdoor Heating Guide advises an inspection and clean of the chimney and if necessary missing or broken brickwork should be replaced. It should also be checked to ensure that birds haven't nested in the chimney, and the flue is cleared otherwise the immediate area will fill with smoke creating an unpleasant atmosphere affecting anyone who suffers from asthma or respiratory conditions.

The Outdoor Heating Guide also recommends the use of spark inhibitors around open fire areas, gas fire pits and chiminea so that sparks are contained and the likelihood of burns or fires is lessened. A fire extinguisher should be handy for any fires that may occur.

Ms Sowden continued, "Outdoor entertaining is one of the most pleasant interactions with friends and family. There is nothing quite like sitting around in a pleasant warm atmosphere, socializing while eating and drinking. The prime objective is to make sure there are no accidents or mishaps that can bring an otherwise happy time to a miserable end."

In summertime few people consider the upcoming fall and winter seasons. Life is spent frolicking in the sun and entertaining on the patio in the balmy summer nights. However, the winter chills will return before long, so summer is the right time for householders to start planning to upgrade their outdoor patio and garden areas in order to maximize their use and have everything prepared before the cooler months arrive.
