Submission Deadline Approaching for the 2009 Oasis Award for Outdoor Kitchen Design, Sponsored by Kalamazoo Outdoor Gourmet and Garden Design Magazine

The August 3rd submission deadline for the 2009 Oasis Award for Outdoor Kitchen Design, the only national competition created to recognize exceptional design of outdoor kitchens, is fast approaching. Residential and landscape architects, landscape designers, kitchen designers and interior designers, as well as students, are invited to enter this annual event.

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) July 11, 2009 -- The August 3rd submission deadline for the 2009 Oasis Award for Outdoor Kitchen Design, the only national competition created to recognize exceptional design of outdoor kitchens, is fast approaching. Residential and landscape architects, landscape designers, kitchen designers and interior designers, as well as students, are invited to enter this annual event.

The winner will receive national recognition in a 2009 issue of Garden Design magazine as well as website coverage and exposure at the 2009 ASLA Conference. Complete entry information is available at www.OasisAward.com.

"Together, we have seen the outdoor kitchen market grow and we are proud to recognize those professionals who are producing truly outstanding designs."

The competition recognizes site-specific residential outdoor rooms with an outdoor kitchen as a primary feature. The project may be real or conceptual.

The judging panel, consisting of five experts in outdoor design, will select the 2009 winner. The Judges for the 2009 Oasis Award for Outdoor Kitchen Design are:

- Mary Palmer Dargan, MLA, ASLA, APLD, RLA, CLARB, Author, Vice President, Dargan Landscape Architects
- Jane Humzy, Owner, Designer, Jane Hamley Wells
- Sarah Kinbar, Editor, Garden Design magazine
- Bill Marken, Honorary ASLA
- Mary Jo Peterson, CKD, CBD, CAPS, Principal, Mary Jo Peterson, Inc.
- Michael A. Thomas, FASID, CAPS, Principal, Design Collective Group,
President-Elect, ASID National

The panel will review the overall design quality of the outdoor living space, including innovative incorporation of equipment from Kalamazoo Outdoor Gourmet, effective outdoor kitchen design, integration of the outdoor kitchen space with the overall environment, creative and effective use
of materials, and design value to the client.

Recent winning entries maximized the outdoor kitchencapabilities, starting with the grill at the heart of the kitchen and adding refrigeration, ample storage and counter space, as well as a side burner and fully plumbed sinks. Additional equipment included freezers, wine chillers, keg tappers, ice makers, warming drawers, waste and recycling cabinets, lobster boil pits and a pizza oven.

"Winning the 2007 Oasis Award gave me an incredible amount of exposure," states Jon van Allen, RLA.

"Through the spread in Garden Design magazine and the coverage online, I am still receiving calls from home and business owners who are seeking my design services. The amount of publicity has been amazing."
