Ovation Benefits Group, New England’s largest independent employee benefits broker and a national leader in the adoption of consumer driven and incentive-based health plans, today announced the acquisition of Health Navigators, LLC, based in Atlanta, GA.

Health Navigators works with employers to identify and intervene with high risk employees and their spouses through a coordinated curriculum of evidence-based education and support that delivers measurable reductions in the critical risk factors that drive poor health, reduced productivity and high medical expenses.

William Carew, President and CEO of Ovation Benefits, announced the acquisition as a major step in the firm’s strategy to deliver sustainable healthcare cost savings for employers through high impact risk reduction programs. “By combining our market leadership in health and benefits with Health Navigators expertise in health improvement, we are positioned to deliver an exceptional value for employers,” he said.

Bill Mauke, Partner and Health & Productivity Practice Leader directed the acquisition team for Ovation Benefits and will lead the Health Improvement Business Unit with plans to expand the programs nationally in 2011. “Employers know that ‘wellness programs’ have poorly documented ROI. They are ready for a more focused approach that is based on verifiable clinical data and evidence-based medical science. Health Navigators gives us the ability to deliver quantifiable health improvement and cost savings through their chronic disease prevention program.”

“We are thrilled to join the Ovation Benefits team,” said Peter Townsley, Principal and Co-Founder of Health Navigators. “As part of the company, we will be able to substantially expand our reach and realize our dream of helping millions of high risk individuals achieve the quality of life they aspire to, while providing real savings for employers.” Townsley will join Ovation benefits as Director, Workforce Health Improvement Programs.

Health Navigators Co-Founder Charles Taylor, MD will also join Ovation Benefits as Chief Medical Officer. “There is a huge difference between a medical-based chronic disease prevention service and the so called “wellness” movement. Ovation Benefits shares the same dreams of improving health and has the same commitment to the science of good health. Together, we can make a real difference.”
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
