Everything we do today is going to have an enormous impact on the future
Natick, Mass. (PRWEB) March 31, 2009
Iconic American fashion designer Carmen Marc Valvo will celebrate 20 years in the fashion industry under his own label with "Couture for Cancer," a retrospective show to benefit Ovations for the Cure, the ovarian cancer non-profit organization announced today.
The event, which will take place Saturday, May 2 at Boston's chic Liberty Hotel, will feature Valvo's favorite designs and trademark looks from the past two decades. Honored guests at this event will include: WCVB-TV investigative reporter and women's health advocate Kelley Tuthill; NECN news anchor Beth Shelburne; Style Expert Gretta Monahan from Bravo's Tim Gunn's Guide to Style and The Rachael Ray Show; and Arts and Entertainment Critic Joyce Kulhawik. Cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and charitable drawings will round out this afternoon of fashion and fun for a cause.
Introduced to the organization by ovarian cancer patient and advocate, Carol Arrick-Wells (whose memory will be honored at the event), this is Valvo's second show with Ovations for the Cure. As a recent survivor of colon cancer himself, Valvo welcomed the opportunity to help raise cancer awareness and support early screening and testing. "Everything we do today is going to have an enormous impact on the future," Valvo said at last year's show. "Supporting awareness and early detection is critical to increasing cancer survival rates."
"Sadly, we are losing too many women to ovarian cancer," Ovations for the Cure's Director of Operations Lisa Tocci said. "This is precisely why early detection is so critical. We are delighted to be working with Carmen again and hope that this event will help make more women aware of this often overlooked disease."
Couture for Cancer is made possible by the following generous friends and sponsors: WCVB-TV/DT Boston, NECN, Hearts on Fire, Fashion Boston, Metro Boston LLC., Maggie Inc., Simon Malls, David Paul Salons, Barefoot Wines, Citizens Bank, Flaherty Plumbing & Heating, Genentech, Svedka and Avant Garde Events.
Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at Ovations for the Cure.
