Pacific Quest, an outdoor therapy program in Hawaii, recently celebrated the launching of the "Hōkūleʻa" and "Hikianalia" voyaging canoes on their Mālama Honua World Wide Voyage (WWV). Pacific Quest’s very own Kalani Kahalioumi will be one of the voyaging crew for the Capetown to Panama leg of the worldwide voyage.

The mission of the WWV is to “navigate toward a healthy and sustainable future for ourselves, our home – the Hawaiian Islands – and our Island Earth through voyaging and new ways of learning. Our core message is to mālama (care for) Island Earth – our natural environment, children and all humankind."

Pacific Quest students harvested and offered 25 pounds of taro leaf for the voyager’s first meal. Students also attended the celebration, which took place at Palekai beach park in Hilo and participated in various activities, including a tour of the sailing vessels, ocean activities-- such as stand up paddle boarding, outrigger canoe paddling, sailing and swimming. Suzanne McKinney, co-founder, adds, "Pacific Quest staff and students were eager to show their support for this historic event, which plays such a vital role in the story that our program has evolved from. What a great opportunity for our community!"
