The first week of July patents started off impressively. The total number of patents is once again back up over 5,500 after dipping down below 4,500 in June. International Business Machines Corporation is also back on top, reclaiming its top spot on the assignees list. Intel and LG quickly regained their spots as well, ousting Ricoh and QUALCOMM from the number 9 and 10 spots after only a week.

The top categories list had a few shakeups with Physics and Electricity replacing both Chemistry; Metallurgy categories from last week. Like most weeks, July 3 had a whole new group of top inventors. Despite the jump in patents issued, inventors this week fell short of surpassing the numbers posted by last week’s top inventors.
