What if we held a BOTOX® and Juvéderm® injection fundraiser and donated 100% of the proceeds to finding a cure for breast cancer?
Washington, DC (Vocus) October 28, 2010
October….. A month once considered the month for celebrating ghosts, goblins, pumpkins and cavities has now become a month of pink.
Breast cancer has come to the forefront and fund raising efforts continue to increase with hopes of finding a cure for this devastating disease.
Last year Paul G Ruff IV MD FACS, a board certified Plastic Surgeon located in Washington DC was injecting a patient with BOTOX® after following up with a breast cancer reconstruction patient when he had an epiphany. “What if we held a BOTOX® and Juvéderm® injection fundraiser and donated 100% of the proceeds to finding a cure for breast cancer?” And with that, the annual Wrinkle Erase for the Cure was born.
Dr Ruff holds the Wrinkle Erase for the Cure every October 1st. “We plan to hold this event every year until the day that we no longer have to perform reconstruction surgeries because they have found a cure.” stated Dr. Paul Ruff. Dr Ruff has performed numerous breast reconstruction surgeries for breast cancer patients and is an expert in his field. He is a first-hand witness to the devastating emotional and physical effects this disease has on both men and women.
During the event visitors donate their wrinkles by receiving BOTOX®, Juvéderm® and other fillers that either relax their facial muscles or add volume to their face that time has taken away. It is a festive day, complete with food, friends, and raffles. It is a day of celebrating those who have battled breast cancer and won as well as a day of remembrance for those we have lost due to breast cancer.
The proceeds of the day are donated to Living in Pink, a local non-profit organization whose primary goal is to raise funds for breast cancer research. “To date we have raised over $65,000 for breast cancer research from our 2009 and 2010 Wrinkle Erase for the Cure fund raising events.” Said Dr. Paul Ruff.
The concept of the Wrinkle Erase for the Cure caught the attention of Erwin Gomez, nationally renowned Celebrity Make-up Artist and Eyebrow Guru. Gomez is the owner of the Erwin Gomez Salon & Spa in Georgetown. “I am a strong supporter of charity events and I firmly believe in giving back to the community.” said Erwin Gomez. “Dr. Paul’s compassion, and professionalism, combined with his commitment towards this event moved me to get involved.”
Dr Paul Ruff’s vision does not stop in Washington DC. “Our goal is to take this event national. With additional plastic surgeons donating a day of their time as well as their facility and staff, our efforts will multiply exponentially. As a group, we could raise a million dollars a year for breast cancer research. Collectively, we could find a cure.” Dr Ruff commented.
Dr Paul Ruff has launched a website for the Wrinkle Erase for the Cure that provides additional information about this important annual event and also has a Facebook page dedicated to the Wrinkle Erase for the Cure.
With people like Dr Ruff combined with the efforts of other plastic surgeons, organizations such as Michele Conley’s Living in Pink, and the support of large corporations, we WILL find a cure for breast cancer ….. And October can be returned to our little ghosts and goblins.
