Restaurant That Put Napa Valley Cuisine On The Map Celebrates With 30 Days of Birthday Cakes

“Sorry, Everything is Delicious!"

Opened in 1983, Cindy Pawlcyn's Mustards Grill is celebrating 30 years with 30 days of birthday cakes. The small restaurant in rural Napa Valley with the eye-catching culinary garden and sign that reads, “Sorry, Everything is Delicious, ” is an icon that continues to define the region’s cuisine. Beloved by locals, vintners and well-heeled tourists alike, it is known as the place for generous portions of delicious California wine country fare paired with Napa Valley wines.

"She absolutely transcended the culinary scene," said Beth Nickel, the Far Niente winery owner who moved to the valley in the 1970s. "She had (the) latest, greatest ingredients, and she always did it better than it had been done before, whether it was onion rings, hamburgers or pork chops."

Creating some of Napa Valley’s most satisfying and eclectic comfort food, Pawlcyn continues her legacy as a culinary pioneer. Many of today's most popular dishes date back to June 16, 1983 – the day the restaurant opened – including her wood-fired Mongolian Pork Chops with sweet & sour red cabbage and housemade mustard and Grilled Hanger Steak with red wine onion jam, French fries and watercress dip and decadent desserts such as Our Famous Lemon-Lime Tart, ridiculously tall brown sugar meringue, candied lemon meringue. To celebrate, Pawlcyn will serve 30 different birthday cakes - one each day from May 16 through June 15 - at all three of her Napa Valley restaurants: Mustards Grill in Yountville, and Cindy's Backstreet Kitchen and Cindy Pawlcyn's Wood Grill and Wine Bar in St. Helena. Best-loved favorites such as Chocolate Pecan Jack Daniel’s Cake with Jack Daniel’s Chocolate Sauce, Diotorta Cake with Coffee and Chestnut Cream, and Coco-Nutty Cake with Lemon/Lime Curd and Coconut Custard Frosting will be included. (Prices will vary and recipes are available.)

Pawlcyn also plans to self-publish a spiral-bound 30 Days of Cakes! A Sweet Celebration of Mustards Grill’s 30th Anniversary later this year, with recipes, photos and colorful illustrations.

Cindy Pawlcyn, a pioneer in the development of wine country cuisine, is the owner of three of Napa Valley’s beloved restaurants: Mustards Grill, Cindy’s Backstreet Kitchen, and her newest, Cindy Pawlcyn's Wood Grill & Wine Bar. Since Mustards opened in 1983, Pawlcyn has been involved in the creation of over a dozen new restaurants in the Bay Area including, Fog City Diner, Bix, Roti, Betelnut, Buckeye Roadhouse and Tra Vigne. In April 2013, Cindy will open Cindy's Waterfront at the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
