PCI DSS Compliance and IT Security: Harmony or Discord?

Lumension Gathers Experts To Discuss the Key Difference Between Mere Compliance and Real, Reliable IT Security in a Roundtable-style Webcast

The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) provides organizations with the requirements for protection of payment card data. This week a summary of changes expected in the next version of these payment security guidelines, which will become effective on January 1, 2011, was unveiled. However, as the PCI Security Standards Council recently pointed out, these guidelines represent a security baseline and additional steps can be taken to strengthen and improve IT security.

Indeed, an organization can be PCI compliant and still experience a security breach – look no further than Heartland Payment Systems and RBS WorldPay. Both had achieved PCI DSS compliance at one point, only to suffer massive data breaches that cost tens of millions of dollars. So what good is mere compliance? What is the difference between compliance and real security? And how can organizations effectively move beyond PCI DSS compliance to ensure the security of all their critical information?

Lumension, the global leader in endpoint management and security, is hosting a roundtable-style webcast on September 2 entitled PCI DSS Compliance and Security: Harmony or Discord. The discussion will focus on how to achieve compliance and improve security for critical corporate information. Participating in the panel discussion are industry experts: Michael Rasmussen, Corporate Integrity, William Bell, Director of Information Systems, EC Suite, and Chris Merritt, director of solution marketing, Lumension.

This webcast will highlight:

  •     The evolving threat and compliance landscape
  •     How to use compliance as a catalyst for developing and implementing an effective security program
  •     The six critical elements to achieving effective and economical PCI DSS compliance
  •     How one organization is going beyond PCI DSS compliance and further enhancing its security of information
