“Only about 30 percent of people with voiding issues seek treatment by a physician,” Persun says. “We hope to change that by offering comprehensive urological consultation and treatment in a comfortable, supportive environment.”

Persun sees men and women for all urological concerns, with a special interest in helping women overcome these often very treatable conditions. She is developing a new specialty center for incontinence and pelvic disorders at One Presidential Boulevard in Bala Cynwyd, Pa. The center offers a multidisciplinary, holistic approach to treating stress incontinence, overactive bladder, pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic pain, urinary tract infections and interstitial cystitis. Treatment can include physical therapy, nutrition, biofeedback and sex therapy as well as minimally invasive surgery.

“Women need physicians who listen well to their complaints to gain a true understanding of their problem and who then have the patience and persistence to solve it. It is important to provide a trusted environment for people to get help, and gratifying to see results that can change someone’s life.”

Persun practiced with Triangle Urological Group in Pittsburgh for six years before moving back to the Philadelphia area. She earned her medical degree from the Temple University School of Medicine and completed a surgical internship and residency in urology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She is board-certified in urology.

Persun joins forces with Tia Schellato, DO, to provide comprehensive urological care by women for women throughout the region. Dr. Schellato has offices at Jeanes and Hahnemann hospitals.

Urologic Consultants is a practice of 14 physicians with extensive experience and expertise, including the areas of robotic and minimally invasive surgery for treatment of incontinence, sexual disorders, enlarged prostate and urologic cancers. Physicians in the practice teach at three local universities and participate in numerous research studies. They have offices throughout the Philadelphia area.
