It (Penrose Academy) represents what we are: polished, professional and prominent. It also is an empty vessel that will allow our staff, students and culture to create the meaning of Penrose Academy.

Penrose Academy is owned by industry leader Jill Kohler and her husband Burt. The academy opened in 2006 with a goal of re-inventing beauty school education and incorporating a strong business curriculum in conjunction with advanced, hands-on cosmetology and skin therapy education. Penrose Academy will continue to elevate the same standard of excellence.
The name change was born out of an unwelcomed lawsuit over Kohler Academy’s name, from a large plumbing corporation. “As small business owners we were unwilling to participate in a legal battle that we feel we would ultimately win, yet would take time, money and our focus away from our goal of preparing students for a successful career in the Professional Beauty Industry,” said President Jill Kohler.
The name Penrose Academy was chosen after weeks of deliberation and careful thought. Creative Director Burt Kohler shared, “We wanted a name that would have a strong presence without an emotional tie to most. It represents what we are: polished, professional and prominent. It also is an empty vessel that will allow our staff, students and culture to create the meaning of Penrose Academy.”
Penrose Academy continues to offer a premiere education as a Pivot Point Member School, Bumble and bumble Partner School and a Dermalogica Partnership Plus School. Incorporating Penrose Academy’s proprietary Life Skills Program, Penrose Academy’s unique curriculum focuses on business education, professional development and cultural awareness in addition to the most current and advanced technical training. Penrose Academy is also a retailer of Dermalogica, bareMinerals, CND and Bumble and bumble products.
