Earning a place on the Inc. 500 three years in a row, coming on the heels of being named the 2009 Internet/New Media Company of the Year by the Technology Council of Southern California, most companies would feel justified to keep on doing what they've been doing. But for Beverly Hills-based Hydra LLC, that kind of success is a call for change.

Performance-based advertising pioneer Hydra LLC today announced that it had been named to the Inc. 500 list of Fastest growing Companies for the third consecutive year. According to Hydra CEO Zac Brandenberg, the company's "pay only for results" ad model helped it thrive in a tight economy.

"The intense focus on ROI is attracting a lot more marketers to Hydra's CPA (cost-per-action) platform," said Brandenberg. "Our plan for continued growth is to lead the way in transforming cost-per-action advertising to meet the higher-level demands of Fortune 1000 brands."

While online direct response marketers have long used CPA (cost-per-action) advertising networks to distribute their ad campaigns, Hydra has seen its model attract a wide range of large DRTV marketers from InStyler and magicJack to Snuggies and ShamWow, as well as blue chip advertisers like AARP, AT&T and Citibank.

"Big brands demand greater, more precise controls to ensure high volume of high quality conversions," said Mason Wiley, SVP of Marketing for Hydra. "We are focused on evolving our operations by investing in infrastructure, systems, technology and people to deliver the greater transparency and quality control, and targeting and reporting these more sophisticated clients require."

In just the past month, Hydra has added three new Director-level hires dedicated to drive higher conversions for display advertising, search, and email marketing. The company is also building out education, insurance and other portals dedicated to lead generation.

In the 3-year period measured by the latest Inc 500, from 2005-2008, Hydra grew revenue 579.1% from $16 million to 108.6 million. That growth earned the company the #42 rank of fastest-growing companies in the category of Advertising & Marketing, and the #450 spot on the Inc. 500 overall.

"Yes, ranking within the Inc. 500 for 3 years in a row is a great validation of our business model,'' said Brandenberg, ''But that doesn't mean there isn't plenty of opportunity to evolve beyond that."
