PMI’s CMO Tony Perri will be a panelist at the AJC Digital Series: Finding the Middle Ground of Data: Balancing Consumer and Marketer. The AJC Digital Series is sponsored by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, one of the largest local media brands in the country.

AMA Atlanta provides a variety of opportunities to a community of marketers. The November AJC Digital Series: Finding the Middle Ground of Data: Balancing Consumer and Marketer, will explore the philosophies of “helpful” and “deceptive” ways to collect data; the challenges brands and marketers face with data collection; and the most useful and tactful ways to use consumer data to benefit both marketers and consumers.

Perri Marketing’s CMO, Tony Perri will be on a subject matter expert panel, answering attendees’ questions on the new relationship between consumers’ data and marketers’ CRM systems, as stricter data protection laws continue to be put in place across America and the globe. Perri has worked in the software and InfoSec industries for 20+ years and has written extensively on the latest data protection legislation out of the EU, The General Data Protection Regulation, also known as the GDPR.

"There are 11 U.S. states that now have data protection laws, and more are coming, including tough laws in California and North Carolina that are going to create problems for companies that don't understand how to handle consumer data to the regulations. If the paths for these laws follow the GDPR -- and I believe it will -- you are going to have to understand PII laws in every state you collect consumer data in, which is going to be very problematic."

In the wake of these new regulations and headlines of bigger and costlier data breaches, consumers are gaining back control of their personal data, and marketers must find a balance between ensuring that the legal guidelines of data collection are being met and keeping up a digital relationship with consumers.
