According to court documents, the team’s client was in a work van on his way to a worksite when the defendant, who wasn’t paying attention, never hit her brakes and rear-ended him.
The client had $29,000 in medical bills and missed work because of the accident, though, as a unionized employee, was still paid during his time recuperating from the collision, according to court documents. Doctors are unsure of whether he will require more surgery.
A $500,000 verdict for a case involving only $29,000 in medical bills is fairly unusual. Usually, a case like this would settle for under $100,000.
“The client is such a deserving, hard-working older guy,” said David Crowe, attorney with the W.T. Johnson team. “The jury liked him, and I think that helped make the verdict as large as it was. This has changed his life. He’s worked manual labor his whole life, and never made much money. Now, he and his wife plan to pay off their house.”
The W.T. Johnson Law Firm is a team of personal injury and consumer attorneys in Dallas, Texas. The attorneys on the team have recovered more than $50 million for clients and have more than 25 years of experience representing clients in cases involving nursing homes, car wrecks and product liability, among others.
