"Our firm is dedicated to keeping the parents and children in our local community safe, and offering free bike helmets to cyclists is the singlemost effective way to prevent head injuries."
Albany, NY (PRWEB) June 13, 2012
As the weather warms up, children will be taking to local streets to ride their bikes. That is why Martin, Harding & Mazzotti, along with co-sponsor 99.5 The River, have decided to sponsor this year’s Free Bike Helmet and Safety Day in Albany. On Wednesday June 13th, from 4 to 7pm, families can attend the safety event at Taft Furniture and receive a free bike helmet. The firm will donate more than 400 bike helmets to the safety event that will also include a bike course for kids to ride, and special visits from the Midway Fire Department and the Colonie Police Department and D.A.R.E. Unit.
According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, 70 percent of bicyclists killed in 2010 were not wearing helmets. Even more important, helmets have been estimated to reduce the risk of head injury by 85 percent. In New York State, children 14 and younger must wear a helmet approved by the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles. Martin, Harding & Mazzotti see Wednesday's Free Bike Helmet and Safety Event as an opportunity to reduce this risk for local bicyclists.
"Severe head injuries and death to bicyclists are absolutely avoidable if the proper precautions are taken," the firm's managing partner, Paul Harding said. "Our firm is dedicated to keeping the parents and children in our local community safe, and offering free bike helmets to cyclists is the singlemost effective way to prevent head injuries."
Over the past 10 years Martin, Harding & Mazzotti has donated thousands of helmets to area efforts to keep local bicyclists safe. Children must be present in order to receive a free helmet.
