New post from personal trainer marketing expert explains that the principles of building muscle also apply to marketing.

Since most personal trainers and boot camp owners understand the principles of building muscle, I thought it would help them boost their marketing results if I applied the same principles to building their businesses.

Bedros Keuilian’s Fit Body Boot Camp franchise is considered a prime example of truly successful fitness marketing, thanks to its unprecedented growth rate. This isn’t surprising, considering that its founder, Bedros Keuilian, is thought by many in the industry to be the leading expert on marketing a fitness business. In his latest blog post, he explains that business owners need to apply the same principles they teach in their gyms to building their personal trainer marketing muscle.

“It occurred to me recently that the same principles we teach our clients about building muscle also apply to our marketing efforts,” says Keuilian. “Since most personal trainers and boot camp owners understand the principles of building muscle, I thought it would help them boost their marketing results if I applied the same principles to building their businesses.”

Keuilian explains that three of the most important principles in muscle building are especially applicable to successful personal trainer marketing: trying new methods, changing routines and tracking progress.

“Left to their own devices, a lot of clients can get too comfortable with one type of workout,” says Keuilian. “They only work out with machines or they only do high-rep routines. The same thing is true of many people when it comes to marketing. They only do email marketing or they only focus on Facebook. But limiting yourself to one or two methods in either area seriously limits your potential.”

Keuilian says that, in the same vein, sticking with one method for too long can result in a plateau, no matter how good that method may be. “One of the most effective training strategies is changing up your routine on a regularly basis. It can virtually eliminate plateaus. The same thing is true in marketing,” Keuilian explains. “By switching back and forth between several effective strategies, you can avoid sticking with something long after the returns have diminished.”

Knowing when those results are slowing is another key to success, says Keuilian.

“In fitness, tracking your progress is essential. That’s how you know what works and what doesn’t and when those things start to change,” he adds. “If you’re not tracking the progress of your marketing, you’re operating blindly and that means wasted time, wasted money and usually wasted opportunities.”

In his blog post, Keuilian goes into more detail on a number of training principles that are just as applicable to personal trainer marketing as they are to personal training.

“Most personal trainers don’t know a lot about marketing, but they do know the truths about building muscle,” says Keuilian. “Hopefully, the post will give those trainers a new way of looking at their business-building strategies.”
