Pest control management has become an essential part of a company's health and safety strategy
UK (PRWEB UK) 30 May 2012
One of the largest pest control companies in the South East of England, Safeguard Pest Control is celebrating its 25th year in business this year.
Safeguard Limited provides a wide range of pest control services to both domestic and commercial customers.
Over the 25 years, Safeguard has built an impressive client portfolio and worked with clients and projects such as: St Pancras International, Westfield Shopping Centre, London Ambulance Service, Great Ormond Street Hospital and many more equally prestigious clients providing contract pest control services as well as ad hoc pest control to both commercial and domestic clients.
Safeguard is delighted to be part of the forthcoming 2012 London Olympics having won the contract for pest control management during the construction phase of the Olympic Park in London, which is still underway.
With tighter legislation surrounding pest control during the 25 years, Safeguard has moved into a more strategic approach to pest control management. Safeguard’s Business Development Manager, Zahn Nel explains more:
“Our approach to pest control has changed quite significantly over the 25 years. Changes in our lifestyles and the food we eat have made an impact to the evolution of the pests and also how we manage them.
“With increasingly larger fines and tighter legislation on businesses, pest control management has become an essential part of a company’s annual health and safety requirements and over the 25 years we have seen an increase in the number of contracted clients.”
Safeguard prides itself on its high level of customer service and the quality of the pest control technicians they employ.
Adds Zahn: “The pest control business is well known for its high turnover of staff amongst its technicians. At Safeguard we have a very low turnover of technicians which we believe contributes to the continuity valued by our clients as well as the high level of personal service; our contract clients also have the added reassurance of our emergency call-out service as part of their contract.
“Our technicians are trained over and above the required health and safety legislation for pest control and each technician undergoes a continuous programme of development ensuring their skills are kept fresh and up-to-date.”
In the 25 years that Safeguard has been operating, pests have constantly evolved and adapted to pest control techniques. In particular a rise in urban rats is well documented with our changes in lifestyle, increase in restaurants and fast food outlets all of which have contributed to the increase. A less well documented problem is the rise in urban mice.
Adds Zahn: “Mice have always been a problem, but urban mice have significantly increased in recent years with a greater need for pest control mice. Unlike their country cousins, urban mice carry more harmful diseases to humans and livestock and can cause significant economic damage to food produce.”
In particular urban mice have become a major problem to retailers in city centres. They can squeeze through gaps as small as 6mm and, once they are around 6 weeks old, they have the ability to reproduce every 21 days; a mice infestation can very quickly become a major problem. Added to this, their digestive system has evolved over recent years resulting in their diet consisting primarily of foods with a high fat content rather than their more traditional cereal based diets.
As well as the more traditional pest control and pest management services offered by Safeguard, their services now also include specialist services complementing the pest management services such as clearance of neglected/void properties, sewage clean up, disinfection services, hypodermic needle removal and disposal and much more.
“Over the 25 years Safeguard has grown an impressive client portfolio and competes with many of the much larger companies operating in today’s marketplace. With our dedicated team of staff and pest control technicians, we look forward to our next 25 years of business.” concludes Zahn.
