The OTHER Dog Show 2007

Our mission with The OTHER Dog Show is to demonstrate that ALL our pets are winners in our hearts. Show dogs have their own type of event, and now family dogs have one, too!

If your canine best friend came from a shelter or rescue group, the third annual Bay Area Pet Fair & Adoptathon has a very special opportunity for you. The OTHER Dog Show is back, and this year the public is invited to participate. This unique event-within-an-event, sponsored by Dogster, is a fun and friendly competition that showcases both adoptable and adopted animals, from cast-off purebreds to hands-down mutts.

To qualify, your dog need only have come from a humane agency, rescue group or similar situation. Our two public classes are "Most Muttalicious" and "All-Around Wonder Dog". You can enter up to two dogs, and there is no registration fee beyond your paid admission to the Pet Fair. The show takes place at 1pm each day in the Performance Arena. To learn more and to register, go to http://www.bayareapetfair.com.

You'll also enjoy watching the classes that feature our participating agencies' adoptable animals, including "Ultimate Lap Dog", "Superest Underdog" and "Coolest Non-Dog" (to give adoptable cats, rabbits, rats, birds and others their time in the spotlight). All class winners will compete for the title of "Best in Show", so you just might go home with a trophy and other great prizes.

Says event producer Sandy Lurins, "Our mission with The OTHER Dog Show is to demonstrate that ALL our pets are winners in our hearts. Show dogs have their own type of event, and now family dogs have one, too!"

With everything the Pet Fair has in store, you'll want to make a weekend of it. You'll find an array of pet-oriented products and services from vendors located in the Exhibit Building and outdoors; multiple venues offering demonstrations, performances and expert presentations, including The Muttley Crew, an amazing canine entertainment team that will thrill Fairgoers with skills like flyball, agility, disc and more; interactive fun for young and old, human and canine; a Kids Pavilion with opportunities for youngsters to learn from humane educators, interact with animals and get their faces painted by Popo the Clown; and most importantly, the largest multi-agency adoption event in California. The Fair offers family admission packages, free parking, and a dogs-welcome policy, so plan to bring your pooch (on a 6-foot leash) and join the action.

Admission prices: Adults - $7; children 6-12 & seniors 55+ - $5; kids 5 & under - free; dogs - $1; family pack (two adults and two kids) - $20. Free parking.

Fair hours: 10am to 5pm both days
