Pet Appreciation week in North America is recognized the week of June 10 - 16th. At Petcentricity our primary focus is on exactly that, appreciating and enjoying the unique relationships we have with our pets. To help celebrate Pet Appreciation Week, PetCentricity.com has come up with some ideas to make this week extra special for your pet.
According to statistics compiled by Petfinder.com, 90% of pet owners consider their pets as members of their family, 80% of cat and dog owners believe that their pet can sense their mood, and 75% of dog owners feel that their dogs make an effort to make them feel better when they are sad.
Why should we take the time to appreciate our pets? Because, according to the Centers for Disease Control; pets increase your opportunities for socialization, lower your cholesterol levels and decrease your blood pressure. Having a pet helps to relieve stress and provides a reason to get more exercise. In short, pets make you healthier.
How can we all reward our pets during Pet Appreciation Week and every day of the week, for that matter? Petcentricity has some tips on making this week special for you and your pet!
Spend more time with your pet and give them more attention. Dogs especially want this more than anything else, even just a tummy rub. Give them some of the attention that they so willingly give to you.
Take them for walks to a new place. Dogs love new places to sniff and new bushes to pee on. Go on an outing to the dog park. Most dogs enjoy the chance to run off leash and socialize with other dogs and owners.
Pets of all kinds enjoy new toys and more play time. Even fish probably appreciate a new fake castle or treasure chest!
Provide them with extra grooming and maybe even a bath.
Take them to the vet for a check-up. This may or may not be popular with your pet but it is an essential part of appreciating your pet.
Treats! You can buy them or bake your own. There are hundreds of recipes on the Internet.
Cats love napping in a sunny spot. Buy them a new cat bed or create a sunny ‘cat-nap’ place for them.
Give your cat extra cuddles. Some cats love this, others appear to be indifferent but probably still appreciate the effort.
Talk to them. Most dogs and birds love this and some even talk back. Cats probably will think you are crazy but find your efforts amusing.
